NAME - Paul Mckeown

Last year, Challenge12 was an incredible year. Having completed every event I learnt a lot about people’s generosity and what drives them to do great things to help good causes. Although I relished the opportunity to get involved with so many charities, I felt this year I wanted to give my sole attention to one cause. My mum was an incredible inspiration during 2012; supporting me through all the challenges, constantly saying I ‘was mad!’ but was proud of what we had set out to achieve and was always there when I needed her.

As a thank you to my mum I asked her which charity she would like to support this year. Without hesitation, EACP was put forward. EACP was founded by some friends of hers who live just down the road from where she lives (and where I grew up). I got in touch with the organisers and I was instantly sold.

EACP focus on education and wellbeing for both deprived children and single mothers. One of my favourite projects of theirs is to reclaim broken sewing machines in this country, repair them, ship them out to their centres and teach single mothers how to sew and create a sustainable income for their families. Just brilliant!

THE CHARITY

East Africa Children’s Project aims to change the future of disadvantaged children. Many children in East Africa are living in societies devastated by poverty, HIV and violence. Often these children end up on the streets or in child labour.

This is the tragic fate of too many children; faced with an impossible situation parents find it increasingly difficult to raise a family, and the outside world is seemingly powerless to stop it.

They support local projects that target the needs of disadvantaged children in East Africa. EACP help close the gap between their current circumstances and the happy and healthy future that they are entitled to.

However, EACP cannot do this alone; we invite you to join us in caring for these children.
