CHALLENGE #3
The Diamond Dash Summer Fete (05.07.2015) - CHALLENGE COMPLETED
THE CHARITYDiamond Centre for Disabled Riders
The Diamond Riding Centre is a charity that has come up a few times now in Challenge12 as it is supported by Katy. It is a horse riding stables specifically tailored to help disabled people. Diamond is purely a charity and relies on donations and goodwill of the public. Disabled people are given the chance of freedom, where they can rise above their disability and develop skills. It provides a chance to build on both mental and physical abilities. Horse riding not only develops muscles helping riders to stretch their flexibility, but also aids learning skills (some more basic than others) alongside the ability to feel independent and free from constraints. People and horses traditionally have a strong bond, and the horses at Diamond are trained to support disabled riders. Diamond requires special equipment to support the safety of both rider and horse, alongside the staff who are both volunteers and permanent members. I (Katy) have worked as a volunteer for many years, helping on most Saturday rides. I see the benefit and development first hand, and appreciate the goodness that Diamond can bring to many people. Diamond is a special place that touches not only the riders and staff, but also the families of those connected - it is a chance for all to see the development riding can bring, alongside provide support within a community of similar families.
