NAME - Sarah Holliday

During his 6th form my cousin Andrew was diagnosed with Leukaemia, after testing his twin brother Steve to be a donor for him they found cancer cells in his blood too. Aged just 21 Andrew lost his battle with the disease, however Steve battled on and entered remission. In 2010 tests showed that the leukaemia had returned and Steve finally lost his battle in September 2011 aged 33.

Throughout their illnesses ELF was a fantastic support to the family as well as supporting the pioneering work carried out at Kings College Hospital in London.
Andrew and Steve were both very sporty before they became ill, and it seems fitting to do a physical challenge to raise much needed funds for this amazing charity.
I am not an incredibly sporty person however I do love
messing about in boats, I'm hoping the beautiful scenery will spur me on through the inevitable aching arms! I'm slightly more concerned about the maze....

THE CHARITY

The Elimination of Leukaemia Fund (ELF) have been helping to advance the cure and treatment of leukaemia, lymphoma, myeloma and myelodysplasia for over 30 years.

ELF stands out as a leading blood cancer charity with its focus on patient centred work – for us the patient and their wellbeing and support of their families is critical. We are striving for better support for all those diagnosed with Leukaemia.
  1. By funding new or improved facilities, the purchase of essential equipment and support clinical and nursing staff.
  2. Contribute towards transitional research – whereby laboratory research can shape into new treatments
  3. Fellowship awards – further education of clinicians. Nurses, clinical scientists and health professionals relative to Haematology.
