CHALLENGE #6
100km Trans Pennine Walk (22.06.2013) - CHALLENGE COMPLETED
THE CHALLENGEWalking Challengers
Alec Taylor - Andy Connolly - Bran Devey - Joey Aonso - Sharyn Ryburn - Pat Hayward - Rachel Lewis On the 22nd of June, intrepid wanderers will set off on the Transpennine Challenge, 100 continous kilometres from Manchester to Sheffield. Across the Peak District, over the Pennines, into the home of Steel. This is our destiny. Last year Challenge12 conquered the same distance across the Yorkshire Dales, on a sweltering May Bank Holiday. It was hard to put into words the feeling crossing the finish line after 30 hours, apart from "that was f^&***g tough!" We raised over £1600 pounds last year, this time we're hoping to raise £2000. Our training will start with good intentions of weekly training walks, building up over time to wear in our softly pleading feet. Inevitably, the hours will be long, the terrain will be tough. Or we might just turn up and overachieve. Because we are up for it! |
THE CHALLENGERNAME - Alec Taylor I work in marine conservation, saving various species and habitats and generally putting the word out there about how wonderful our world is and how we need to save it. I was inspired to raise money for Street Child by my soon-to-be-retiring boss who will be running a half marathon in Sierra leone in 2014 for Street Child. Puts me to shame! |
THE CHARITYWe're raising money for Street Child of Sierra Leone (www.street-child.co.uk) - a wonderful charity which takes children and sex workers off the streets of Sierra Leone and provides a fresh start for them. One of the poorest countries in the world, almost two thirds of the population live on less than $1.25 a day. 50000 children live and work on the streets.
Over 1800 girls under 18 work in the commercial sex trade and many more in transactional sex. Street Child works to bring these children back into full time education and if possible reunite them with their families. |
