CHALLENGE #9
Man V Mountain (05.09.2015) -  CHALLENGE COMPLETED

THE CHALLENGE

Mountain Bashing Challengers
Rid Hollands - James Frecknall - Nita Patel - Joel Plaja - Jimmy Curtis

Mountain Bashing Challengers (for other charities)
Piers Horner (Link Community Development) - Nina Menezies (Link Community Development) - Tom Irving (Link Community Development) - Tom Wilkinson (Link Community Development)  - Farhad Chikhalia (Link Community Development)

Man vs Mountain is a delightfully scenic 20-mile run up (and down) Snowdon with a series of land and water based obstacles chucked in for good measure (including the infamous 'vertical kilometre').

Essentially, it's a half marathon uphill, followed by a 10km run downhill - what could be a greater test than racing up the UK's third highest mountain?!

The challenge is perfect for Challenge12 - it will test how we can conquer the 1085m as a team, our strength and determination, our mental resolve and most of all, our calves!

NAME - Rid Hollands

I'm Rid and I'm captaining this epic quest to conquer Snowdon. I participated in a Challenge 12 event in 2013 (Tough Spartans) and when Andy asked if I wanted to Captain my own, I jumped at the chance. After consideration of worthy events, I decided on MvM as I was born in Wales and am immensely proud of my heritage and the scenery that Wales has to offer and I thought this would be an excellent way to introduce others to Snowdonia's beauty at the same time as raising money for a worthy cause.

THE CHARITY

DURRELL WILDLIFE CONSERVATION TRUST

Reading the books that Gerald Durrell wrote has been an inspiration to me and helped me decide on where I wanted to go within my career. Partly thanks to those books, I now work as an environmental consultant. In order to give something back, I selected The Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust as my charity of choice. I have been fortunate enough to see the output of Durrell's conservation work in several places such as Mauritius and Madagascar - they are brilliant and really do make a difference. Durrell aims to not only save endangered species worldwide but also educates and supports the development of local communities in order that they can carry on the work of the conservation trust.
